Welcome to the first of what I hope to be a recurring entry on the pages you see before you. I got the idea for this as I painstakingly labored to bring my adoring masses (all three of you) some Christmas Cheer. It was my first attempt at a podcast. Songs were mislabeled, some were left out, others snuck in there all in an attempt to provide some Yuletide Cheer. Honestly, the entire process was horribly painful and by the time I had completed the podcast, I could care less if Old Saint Nick ever came to see me or for that matter any of you. That's right. For all I cared the fat little elf could find himself stuck in your chimney only to be discovered as his rotting charred corpse began to fall into the embers of your fireplace after months of winter log burning. "Honey, you forgot to open the flue, again. No. Wait. Good God! Honey, take the kids and run, get outta here. That's not soot--it's Santa! ... read more >>

Get more male teachers into preschool
Only 1% of all New Zealand early childhood teachers are men (down from almost 2.5% in 1992) which is one of the worst rates in the developed world. At a recent event in Wellington Russell Ballantyne, President of Men in Early Childhood Network New Zealand called this "a tragedy for thousands of New Zealand children".
"As a result many children who have no man at home, find no man at preschool and no man at primary school, and never meet a stable, reliable male figure in all their preteen years. Girls never experience nurturing from a trusted older male. Boys, cared for only by women, learn that nurturing is no part of the male job description. And in the absence of reliable men, too many of these boys learn their male role from violent television and music videos, and on the street" he said. ... read more >>
crabbydad - Rectum?! Yep... sure did...
| "crabbydad" - 1 new article
Rectum?! Yep... sure did...Oh, hi. I didn't see you there, as I was busy picking pieces of my ass off the floor... you know, the ass that had been ripped clean offa my backhole after pulling a brutal all-weekender, right after pulling a brutal three-or-four-week-freelancer. If I don't ever have to descend into that seeping, hellmouth of a basement to plop my no-longer-there-ass in front of those soul-sucking giant monitors again, it'll be too soon. What's that? I have to do it tomorrow? Oh, okay. • Email to a friend • Related • More Recent ArticlesClick here to safely unsubscribe now from "crabbydad" or change subscription settings Unsubscribe from all current and future newsletters powered by FeedBlitz

I took him to the doctor's office (Suburban Daddy is assigned all doctor visits where shots will be given) on a Monday afternoon to get the shot. Quick and not so painless, but it was over in a few minutes. Then we went out for a cookie at Starbucks and he forgot all about it. The next day, I received the call from preschool around 10am. He was running a 101 degree fever which normally means he needs to go home. I mentioned that he had a flu shot the day before, and they said if I get a note from the doctor saying he wasn't contagious, he could stay. A flu shot normally causes a low fever for a day or so. I called the doctor and asked them to fax a note over to the preschool. It's all good. ... read more >> But, Girls Can Be Firefighters
Maybe I'm being too dramatic, but my Preschooler told me on Friday that "girls aren't firefighters." She didn't actually say "girl's can't be firefighters," so maybe there's still hope. This had come up because her older sister's Girl Scout Troop was scheduled to visit our local firehouse, and there was an actual female firefighter expected to lead the tour. As I was preparing my Three-Year-Old for her official role as invited sibling, I was confronted with societal stereotypes and their impact on our children. This despite the fact that she plays "firefighter" almost daily at her preschool. I also thought she was doing a good job sorting through stupid gender-based roles, especially since the famous "Police Chief Daddy" discussion. ... read more >> Can I eat it - no you can'tMy 9-month old son has developed a new habit - eating. Flu shots are usually pretty simple. A few seconds and they don't even know what hit 'em. For Thing 2, two and a half years old, it was an adventure this year.
There comes a time in every modern parent's life when their child says something, and it dashes your hopes for the future.
